After a couple of false starts (here and here), and receiving my order of black fabric to add to my collection of Riley Blake solids, I started a new entry to the MQG Sashing Stash fabric challenge. I reverted to one of my favorite design elements – the circle!
This time, I think I nailed the value issue.
I was thinking of quilting each color section with matching thread. But when I was squaring up the quilt, I really liked the look of the yellow grid on top of the quilt. I believe I will quilt it with an all-over grid, using yellow, pink and orange thread. I’ll start with lines about 2 inches apart, then see if I want to add more.
Thanks for stopping by. Today, I’m linking up with these blogs – click on the links below, where you’ll find many other creative projects to inspire you.
This is really fun! Do you applique your circles?
Yes, I do, I draw the full-size design on freezer paper (FP), then cut out each shape. I press the FP to the back of the fabric and cut it with a seam allowance of 1/4 to 1/2 inch around the FP pattern piece. I press the seam allowance to the back. I then pin the piece in place, carefully peeling the FP away from the edge. Then I top-stitch the circle in place. It sounds more complicated than it is. This is one of the techniques I teach in my Circles workshop.
Its looking very good. I especially appreciate the white dashed lines.
Thanks. I like the dotted lines too.
The value is definitely right and the color combo too! I think the idea of quilting a grid is to the point, the design has something about measuring, eyeballing, targeting in it. Do you have a name for it yet?
Thank you. I don’t have a name for it yet – any suggestions?
Love your wee quilt, it holds my attention and makes me think, thanks so much for sharing a great tutorial, looking foreward to seeing the quilting added. Cheers Glenda
Very cool!
