This week I have two finishes to share.
This my first entry for the Canadian Quilters‘ Trend-Tex Challenge. It went together really quickly – on Monday I drew the pattern on freezer paper, cut the fabric and sewed it together; on Wednesday I quilted and bound it. You can see the quilting on the black back, as I used the same color thread on the top and in the bobbin. It’s 19 x 19 inches.
This little quilt is my submission to the annual juried exhibition “Cherry Blossoms: A Textile Translation”. The show will open April 1st at the Silk Purse Gallery in West Vancouver. http://silkpurse.ca/exhibitions/
I fused various scraps to the background to give it more depth and interest. Then I rough cut the leaf and petal shapes and fused them to the background. I sketched the flower and leaf outlines with dark green thread, then sketched in some additional details with pink thread. The blossom centers are embellished with hand-stitched embroidery thread. The finished size is 12 x 12 inches.
Thanks for stopping by. I’m linking up to these blogs, where you can see many other creative projects:
wonderful quilts, love the first one, it just jumps off the page
Gorgeous quilts! The first one is very graphic.
love how you quilted the TrendTex challenge – it looks as amazing from the back as the front. Really like your Cherry blossom entry again this year, too. How long will they be on show?
Good luck with your quilt! It is awesome! Love the colors, the lines, the quilting – beautiful! And the flowers – so pretty!
The exhibit will be at the gallery from April 1st to the 20th.
Oh that first colourful quilt may well be my favourite mini quilt ever ever ever. Love the idea, the construction, the fabrics you used, the quilting and the binding. Perfect in my eyes!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for that challenge :o)
Your Trend Tex quilt is very eye catching. You have really made the most of the fabrics!
